Calvin's Enemy Chapter 1
Jay carefully looked down the line of the cue for a few more moments before moving it back and sending the yellow ball rolling into the middle pocket. It was the end of another day for S Club Juniors, and Calvin, Jay, Aaron and Stacy had finished all the recording they had prepared to do during the day. There had also been a few photo shoots, but they had enjoyed most of these. They were hanging out in the games room within the recording studio. "You’re pretty good at this Jay!" Aaron exclaimed as Jay knocked down another yellow. Jay had just recently beaten Calvin, who was now sitting on the sofa with Stacy. So Aaron had stepped up to try and beat him. "I used to play on my dad’s table a lot" Jay explained getting down for a harder shot, "he was real good at pool." He aimed up another yellow, but his shot was too hard and the yellow bounced in the jaws of the pocket. "man!" Jay cursed as the white rolled down towards the middle of the table where it faced one of Aaron’s reds. "You gotta make this count Aaron" Calvin instructed as the fourteen year old moved round towards the site. Aaron had only potted down one ball, whereas Jay had sunk four. "Okay! Okay! No pressure!" Aaron insisted as he began to line up the shot. It was an easy shot for him, and he couldn’t miss. He was about to draw back his cue when suddenly he heard familiar voices coming from the hallway which led up to the games room. "Hi guys." He looked up to see Frankie walking into the room. She was dressed in jeans, a tight white t-shirt and black high heels. Aaron couldn’t do anything but watch her as she walked by the table and settled down in one of the arm chairs by the sofa, overlooking the game. He completely forgot what he was doing and his attempted shot totally missed the red and screwed harmlessly away. "Need some chalk?" Jay asked who had seen Aaron’s mistake. Aaron shook his head and looked across again to Frankie who was now talking to Stacy and Calvin. "We’ve just been to this real cool party" she told Stacy, "you would have really enjoyed it!" "Well, I was a bit tired after all that recording today so I thought I’d just chill and hang out with the guys here." Frankie furrowed her brow at this. It was indeed unusual for Stacy not to come out with them. Unless there was something going on which she wasn’t saying about. Frankie looked across at Calvin who had his arm around her shoulder. She was about to question this when, the three remaining juniors Rochelle, Daisy and Hannah entered the games room. "Were we actually gone three hours?" Rochelle asked aloud looking down at her watch, "it seems like it was about seven." "Yeah, I certainly didn’t want to leave that easy" Daisy confessed walking across to the sofa. The three girls all ran for the last remaining armchair, but Hannah, being the smallest of them managed to squeeze by and claim it. "Ah, just what you need after a good night’s partying" she declared, looking cheekily across to Rochelle and Daisy. The two girls squeezed onto the arm rests of the sofa. "Well I’m glad you’ve got back now rather than midnight" Calvin told the four girls, "don’t forget we begin our tour of Scotland tomorrow. And my old school is first on the list." Rochelle nodded. Calvin hadn’t stopped going on about it during the last three days. But one advantage on the trip to Scotland would be that there was plenty of time for sleep during the journey. "Are you looking forward to getting back up there then?" Stacy asked turning across to him. Calvin nodded immediately. "You bet, my family hasn’t quite moved down to London just yet. So I’ll get another chance to see them as well." Suddenly Jay lay in his most powerful pool shot yet. The black crashed into the top right hand corner but the white still had a lot of back lift on it. Somehow it managed to hit the cushion and jump towards the sofa. Daisy had seen it coming and was quick to move forward and catch it with her right hand. "Woah nice one!" Aaron exclaimed as Daisy handed the white back to Jay who was very unhappy with his shot. The white going off the table had meant that Aaron had won the game. "Do I get any points for that?" Daisy asked Jay smiling. "Nah" he replied shaking his head, "but as a prize you can play Aaron next!" Calvin had set his alarm clock within the boy’s room to remind them all not to lie in. It awoke all three of them at 5am, which didn’t please Aaron and Jay. When they had got ready they went across to the girl’s rooms to see if they had remembered. Frankie and Stacy were already up, but the other three were moving very little. "It’s probably all that dancing they did last night" Frankie explained to the boys as she shook Daisy more. "Come on Daisy, wake up We got to go soon!" "I was just having a real good dream there!" Daisy grumbled under the bedcovers which she had wrapped around all of her body. Finally Daisy gave into Frankie’s shaking and began to get out of her bed. "We’ll meet you downstairs for breakfast" Jay replied seeing that Stacy had managed to force Hannah and Rochelle up as well. The three boys left the girls to get ready and went downstairs to the studio’s dining hall where breakfast was being prepared for them. They each grabbed some cereals and sat down on one of the tables. By the time they had finished breakfast the girls had all stumbled into the room and were grabbing something to eat. Daisy was looking particularly disorientated when she had sat down on the table opposite the boys. Some of her milk missed the bowl containing the cereals and trickled down the edge of the table. "What took you so long?" Aaron asked looking across to her table. Daisy still looked half asleep and let out a large yawn. "We had to do our hair and everything" she murmured digging into her cereal with a sthingy, "what time are we leaving?" "Half past five" Calvin reminded her as the boys cleared up all the rubbish and fruit peelings on their trays, "and don’t worry you’ll be able to sleep on the couch for quite a while." Hannah came down to sit next to Daisy. She had managed to get a much better night’s sleep than Daisy had. "Are you going to go to sleep in the middle of your Frostiest?" Hannah laughed seeing Daisy slumped over her cereal bowl. She had her left hand placed against the side of her head, which was probably the only thing which was stopping her from dropping off again. "Yeah, well if it wasn’t for two of you girls snoring I wouldn’t be feeling like this" Daisy exclaimed looking across at Hannah. This had now caught the boy’s attention. "Who snores then Daisy?" Jay asked interested. "Rochelle and Stacy! I was thinking of taking a tape recorder into our room to prove to them that they do do it." "No I don’t!" Stacy yelled, "I don’t snore, honest." Jay and Aaron started laughing but Calvin just smiled. Rochelle and Stacy sat down opposite them with their breakfast trays. Stacy was having a bacon roll with toast, while Rochelle had a selection of fresh fruit which included strawberries, sliced banana and melon and grapes. "You should hear Aaron" Calvin added knowing that Stacy needed support, "he sounds like a fog horn sometimes!" Stacy was pleased that Calvin had said that and she laughed along with all the others. Aaron smiled. "I probably get it from my Dad" he confessed. His gaze suddenly turned towards Frankie who was walking down the tables towards where they were seated. He noticed that there was a spare seat next to him, and Frankie seemed to have her eyes on it. He stuttered on what to say when she asked him whether she could sit next to him.

"Sure" Aaron replied nervously moving up so she could sit down. Frankie smiled and placed her breakfast tray next to his. Aaron went slightly red. After breakfast, the juniors finally climbed aboard the couch which was parked in front of their studio, waiting to take them up to Aberdeen. They took their bags from the rooms which they had packed the previous night and took them down to the couch. They were going to spend a week performing up in Scotland, then return back to London. Aaron led the way as they climbed aboard the couch and placed all their baggage in the holders above them. "I’ll think I’ll get my CD player out" Rochelle told Hannah taking her rucksack back out, "it’s going to be rather a long trip." Jay, Calvin and Aaron settled town on some seats facing each other with a table between them. They saw Daisy and Stacy heading back down to the four seats behind them. "I reckon Daisy will want to catch up on the sleep she missed" Aaron adjudged. The other three girls sat at the table opposite and began chatting almost immediately about what they expected to see up in Scotland. "Looking forward to seeing your school again?" Jay asked Calvin looking across at him. But to Jay’s utmost surprise, his friend had fallen asleep almost immediately. He was lying on the table with his arms folded, acting as a pillow. "Well that didn’t take long" Aaron declared looking across at Calvin’s head, "I was about to offer him one of the pillows I had brought along." As soon as the three S Club Junior Assistants had climbed aboard as well, the couch was soon pulling away from Lamington Spa to begin the long journey up to Aberdeen. Calvin awoke slowly to find he was facing Aaron opposite, who was lying back against the seat with his eyes closed. He was about to say something to Jay but a quick look around revealed that Jay had also fallen asleep and was slumped over the table in front of them. Calvin looked across at the three girls to his left but he saw that they had all dozed off as well. Hannah had even slouched across onto Rochelle’s shoulder without realizing. Calvin looked out the window and saw that they were on the motorway’s dual carriage way and he gazed at the traffic passing by on the opposite lane going the other way. He yawned and thought about checking on Daisy and Stacy to see if they were awake. But to do that he would have to disturb Jay and he didn’t want to do that after the fact that Jay had been saying how much he had been looking forward to getting some rest on the journey. He saw a road sign pass by on the girls’ window and he just managed to make out ‘Nottingham’ before the couch flashed past it. "Still a little way to go then" he told himself settling back down in his seat. He was about to get out his mobile phone, which was his most valuable possession to check if he had any messages, when suddenly Aaron stirred and gradually opened his eyes. "Welcome back to reality" Calvin joked as Aaron looked around to regain his bearings, "good sleep?" Aaron yawned then stretched his arms the full distance towards the other side of the table. "Not bad" he replied rubbing his leg as it seemed very numb to him. "Seem to have got ‘pins and needles." "Have a walk down the bus that should do the trick" Calvin suggested. Aaron nodded, gently lifted himself out of his seat and began walking down towards the very back of the bus. He saw that Rochelle, Hannah and Frankie were still asleep so he crept past them as quietly as he could. Calvin turned on his phone and checked through his messages. The phone vibrated when he saw that he had gotten a new text message which had been sent earlier this morning. It was from his brother, wishing him luck for the all the performances up in Scotland. The tour was going to start in Aberdeen and end in Edinburgh, making eight stops in all. Calvin smiled as he read all of it. He was looking forward to seeing his family again and it had been a long six months or so since he had last seen them. But he was going to meet up with them when the tour was coming to an end. Aaron walked back up to the table and sat down in his place. "Feeling better?" Calvin asked his friend. Aaron nodded. "Yeah a little, I’ll try and lie down so that I can get rid of it much more quicker." He took his shoes off and lay across the two seats with his face resting on the window. "Are Daisy and Stacey asleep as well?" Calvin asked. "Yeah, Daisy’s dropped off on her magazine and Stacey’s come equipped with two of her pillows" Aaron remembered. He glanced over his seat and saw that they were still fast asleep. He laid back down and looked across at the other three girls opposite them. "She looks real cute doesn’t she?" "Huh?" Calvin replied turning his mobile off and placing it back into the side pocket on his rucksack. He looked where Aaron’s stare was heading towards and unsurprisingly it was angled towards Frankie. "Oh, well yeah of course she is!" "Do you think she knows Cal?" Aaron asked quietly turning to face him. Still half asleep, Calvin was still a little confused over what Aaron was asking. "Knows that she’s cute. Well yeah I guess......" "No I mean....!" Aaron began to exclaim rather loudly, but then stopped as Jay opened his eyes slightly. Not saying anymore, the two boys waited until Jay had returned back to sleep then continued talking. "I mean, does she know that I sort of, well you know..." Aaron struggled to explain looking across to her, thankful that he hadn’t managed to wake her up at the same time. Calvin sighed. "Aaron, you’ve been giving her the impression that you like her, pretty much since we joined together. I’m sure she knows by now." But this wasn’t enough to calm Aaron down, and still seemed a little tense and on edge about this situation. "What if I make the first move, and she thinks I’m an idiot" he declared looking across at Calvin who was now digging out a football magazine from his bag, "What if it all goes wrong!" Calvin flicked through the magazine until he found the interview with Henrik Larsson, his favorite football player. He was about to start reading it when he looked up and saw Aaron looking down on him, longing for some advice. Calvin knew that Aaron could be very shy sometimes. "Listen, I think we all know that you like her. And you know girls, they can’t stop talking about things like this. My advice to you would be just to be positive, and to go for it. And it won’t be the end of the world if she says no." Even though Calvin had never had a girlfriend, he still felt that this was the best path to take. Seeing that Aaron was now much more composed with him, Calvin continued reading his magazine.

Here's the next part
At half past nine, the couch finally reached it’s destination at Aberdeen’s primary school at Kittybrewster which was in the north of the city. When the couch pulled up beside the school entrance, the juniors who were all awake by now took their hand luggage from the holder above them and climbed down off the bus. "How does it feel to be back?" Rochelle asked Calvin as they stepped down off the couch together. "Brings back memories" Calvin told her as he looked around at the front building. The three assistants began to unload all the equipment from the compartment underneath the bus. These included the speakers and the box of headsets, and the denim jackets and jeans which the juniors always wore when they had performed. Suddenly, the Juniors saw a woman walking out of the school, and seemed to be coming towards the bus. Calvin raised his eyebrows as she got closer. "Who’s this Calvin, do you know her?" Daisy asked. Calvin nodded. "She used to be my class three teacher." The lady approached them and smiled broadly. She had short brown hair, and wore a red top with black trousers. "Hello welcome to Kittybrewster School" she announced in her strong Scottish accent, "it’s a real honor for you to come and perform here." She noticed Calvin and placed her hand forward. "It’s good to see you here again Calvin." Calvin reached out and shook her hand. "Hi Mrs. Waite. It feels so cool to be stepping onto the grounds again." He then introduced her to his seven friends who she all shook hands with. Calvin noticed that even though she was trying to be happy, he could sense a slight sadness in her. "It’s been S Club Junior chaos in the last few days" she explained to them, "Kids have been going crazy. I wouldn’t be surprised if their are a few children who stop you for autographs while you are walking through the school." "Don’t worry we’re used to that" Jay assured her. He knew that they were going to a large autograph session later on in the day, when they went down to the city hall in Aberdeen. There was bound to be tons more people trying to get in there. "Anyway, come on through" she instructed them, "All the children are in lessons at the moment but we’ve prepared a spare classroom for you to place your gear in. Follow me." The Juniors and the assistants followed her into the school and Calvin looked around at the inside corridors, taking in the memories he had left behind when he had joined high school. On their way to the room, the juniors had to pass by two classrooms which both contained pupils. When they walked by, the children peered out and waved at them, overjoyed that they had at last arrived at their school. Calvin stuck his thumb up at two boys who he seemed to recognize. "I guess you know most of these, since you were only at your High School for a year" Aaron asked him as Mrs. Waite pushed open the door to the classroom. There was a note pinned to the top of it saying ‘Reserved for Visitors.’ "Well yeah that’s right" Calvin answered, "certainly year threes to year sixes anyway." Mrs. Waite opened the door and the three assistants went in first as they were carrying the heaviest gear. "Here we are" Mrs. Waite declared as all the eight juniors filed into the room, "this’ll be your base for the next couple of hours." Calvin walked around the classroom and up to the blackboard at the very front of the room. This had been his Math’s and English classroom and he went across to the desk which he had always sat at during these two lessons. "Make yourselves comfortable. I’ll go and find the Headmistress and tell her that you have arrived" Mrs. Waite explained as the other juniors began to dump their rucksacks down near to the desks. When she had left, the juniors’ assistants replied that they still had a lot of things to unpack from the couch, so they followed her out. "Were you any good at Math’s Calvin?" Hannah asked looking round the room at the Times Table and various other helpful Mathematic posters. She had always found Math’s hard back at her Primary school. "Not really Han, I couldn’t stand it" Calvin admitted looking out of the window down onto the school’s football pitch. He had much preferred PE and had always looked forward to Friday afternoons, as he always finished the week with Sport. Noticing that the rest of the group seemed a bit nervous and unsure of their new surroundings, Daisy decided to break the ice. "Okay children" she declared in an orderly voice marching towards the blackboard and picking up a piece of chalk, "the subject for today is......" She began to scribble something down in the middle of the board. There wasn’t much chalk left and Daisy found it difficult to actually write. But when she was done, all of the others could see clearly what she had put. "Rochelle’s nuttiness!" she said drawing a big circle around it. All the Juniors laughed and Rochelle smiled evilly, planning on how she was going to get her own back on Daisy. But Daisy wasn’t finished with this topic and was beginning to construct a spider diagram thinking of more and more points. "The fact that she likes playing with peoples ears, and she likes Craig David. Well enough said." "Hey I like playing with peoples’ ears as well" Calvin exclaimed, who had sat himself down on his desk and was watching Daisy construct the diagram. Unknown to Daisy, while she was thinking up more points Rochelle had crept down between the rows of desks and was approaching the front of the room. "I know but you are not as bad as she is" Daisy pointed out turning back to him. She looked around the room at all the juniors and couldn’t see the one that she was taking the mike out of. Thinking that she had upset Rochelle, Daisy began to walk out the door to see where her friend had gone. Rochelle took this opportunity to attack and was up from her hiding place underneath the desk in a flash. She had grabbed hold of the hood of Daisy’s sweatshirt and pulled it down on her head. While Daisy was wondering what on earth was going on, Rochelle had tightened the hood onto her face using the toggles on both sides. The other seven juniors were starting to giggle and laugh as Daisy began to try and feel her way round the room with her hands waving out. "I’m sorry to say that Miss Evans is otherwise engaged at the moment" Rochelle announced taking over the teacher’s role, "I’m you’re new teacher Miss Wiseman and I’ll be taking the lesson." "Oh my god!" Frankie exclaimed as Daisy approached her still trying to adjust the straps to the hood, "Daisy’s turned into Kenny from South Park!" "If only you’d worn an orange sweatshirt instead of a blue one!" Aaron replied, which made both of them laugh harder than ever. "Very funny you two!" a muffled Daisy exclaimed underneath the hood. Stacey had gone across to sit next to Calvin and was watching thoroughly enjoying the entertainment that the two girls were staging before them. Calvin suddenly turned round and saw that Stacey was rummaging through her jacket pocket, trying to find something. "What have you lost?" he asked her
